SKILL TRUMPS POWER: Life Lessons From The Woodcutter Pt3
by Katopeka Nkhoma

This year, plan to work smart, not hard. This is one of the things I learnt from the Woodcutter. Power and force do not always equal progress. All the power in the world will not help you if you apply it wrongly.

So what do I need you ask? I am glad you asked. Skill trumps power anytime. More skill = less power!! When you apply skill. You move faster than someone who applies power.

skill

An ability and capacity acquired through deliberate, systematic, and sustained effort to smoothly and adaptively carryout complex activities or job functions involving ideas (cognitive skills), things (technical skills), and/or people (interpersonal skills). See also competence.

The acquisition of a skill is a deliberate effort. Its not automatic, you have to deliberately invest everything you can in becoming a better you.
Daniel 1:17
As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

God did not give Daniel and his friends power or favour, he gave them skill! And it is knowledge and skill that set them in the highest office of the land. This year, invest in gaining some new skills. It may be a skill related to your current job or business, or a completely new skill. Get financial skill,  relational skill, parenting skills and whatever other skill you will need in life. Remember, it's a deliberate effort.

It is skill that gets you noticed in this world. It is skill that opens doors for your promotion. No one ever looks for an average Joe, everyone looks for a skillfull person.

2 Chronicles 2:7
Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.

Skill advertises itself!! When you sharpen your skills, they will bring you before great men. The problem with people is that we always settle for the status quo. We are comfortable to be just like everyone else. If you choose to be like everyone else, you can never be identified for promotion. Your skill will set you apart, it will mark you for distinction. Whatever it is you do, make sure you are the best at it! Put in all your effort and resources to be skilled in your field.

This year set yourself apart from the crowd, hone your skills. Set yourself up for a lifting, equip yourself with valuable skills. The world is rapidly evolving due to technological advancements. In a few years time jobs and businesses as we know them will not exist. If you don't equip yourself NOW for skills that will be needed in the near future, when your job becomes extinct you too will be obsolete.
