Can Love Make A Difference?
by lareina morgan

Love comes in many shapes and forms. I find that many people focus on the type of love they like best, such as the love of a mother for her child, the love of friendship, a man and a woman falling in love or the love for your family. And then there is the greatest love story, the love of God for his children. And then sometimes, you hear about love relationships that generally doesn't happen often, like love relationships between animals, the most unlikely pairs, predator and prey sitting down and living together in peace and harmony. Of course, it is predicted in the bible that when Jesus Christ comes back to set up His kingdom in the world, that many animals will live in peace with each other and with us as well (Isaiah ch 11:6).

Everyone has heard of the man and his dog relationship, but what about a man and his dog, and their hummingbird? I just saw a video about a man who adopted a dog who used to live on the streets, and how this dog helped to save a baby hummingbird from dying by refusing to leave it where it had fallen on the ground. The man took it home and raised it and fed it, and now the three of them live together in his home. What is really amazing, is that the man has to feed the hummingbird a sugary substance every 15 min, which he says he does from sunup to sundown, and that he leaves his windows open hoping that the bird will fly off to find a mate, because it is time for it to do so.

It sounds like this man has taken on a bit more responsibility than most people would ever desire, but what he said about this situation astounded me. He said He saved the dog, the dog saved the bird, and the bird has saved them all! Even though the bird's needs seem far more pressing than the man's or the dog's, he still appreciates everything that the bird has brought into their lives. It is like this little bird has taught them how to truly love others.

God loves us all, and He showed the depth of His love by sending His son, Jesus Christ into the world to die on the cross for our sins. We can become citizens of the Kingdom of God, and be saved from the ultimate consequences of our sinful thoughts and actions. The Lord knows that we cannot live with Him forever and ever in our fallen state, so He came up with a brilliant way to save us from ourselves, and to show the rich depth of His compassion toward our situation. He saw us on the ground, wounded, lost and in despair, and He picked us up, washed us in the Blood of the Lamb, saved us and restored our souls. He gives comfort to the broken hearted, and heals our illnesses and diseases.

He strengthens our hearts, and gives us the faith to stand on His word and to live by His standards. Courage is freely given to those who must bear the burden of the cross where the cross is persecuted and despised. No one loves you more than Jesus Christ, and He will be with anyone who dares to call upon His name.

Yes, it does seem that love can make a difference in your life; it seems that no matter the time, the situation, the people or 'animals' involved, love can make the most bitter enemies into friends, and the most unlikely people to come together to form a love bond that changes all of their lives and helps to shine the light of love in the darkest of places.
