Upon His Shoulders
by PamFord Davis

Have you carried a toddler in your arms, or up on your shoulders, for long periods of time? It is difficult to bear the burden of their weight. The LORD is well equipped to carry people of all ages; He has strong arms, broad shoulders and His lovingkindness endures forever.

"So He told them this parable, saying, 'What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?  When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’  I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance (Luke 15:3-7 NASB)."

Consider how He rests the weight of the nations upon His shoulders.

"For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 NASB)."

He extends His mercy and grace... oh, His boundless love.

"Praise the Lord!

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting (Psalm 106:1 NASB)."
