Twin Calves
by Leonard Granger

LEN'S LINES -- A Little Religion On A Positive Note  by Len Gran

It has been said, farmers in the beef cattle business, for a long period of time, will probably experience a set of twins sooner or later.

Having raised beef cattle for over twenty years, this is  the first time a cow in my small herd has been blessed with twins.   I searched and found that beef cattle have twins  1 to 7 percent of the births depending upon the breed. Though fairly rare,  the calves are born 1 to 2 weeks ahead of single calves.

The cow like most will leave one calf and take the other across the pasture and raise just one calf.  This happened and so we are now bottle feeding the bull calf and keeping it in the garage at night. The calf has weak front feet but is able to get up on its own.  It bottle feeds good  and appears to doing very well.

As I thought about this situation,  where the cattle herd abandoned the calf, I thought about a person becoming a new born Christian, and all the help they will need, like a bottle feed calf.  Our Lord    tells us in the Bible how he will be treated   and suffer.    Luke 17:25" But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation."      Yes, the Lord was rejected . died on the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day.  What a wonderful day for all of us sinners, as the Lord gave us a way to eternal salvation. if we put our hope, trust and faith in Him, repent of our sins and accept the Lord as our Savior.

The heifer calf that the mother accepted   most likely will be a Freemartin     (sterile)  and will become beef steak.  However, the rejected bull calf will be a replacement bull in our herd with the twin genetics in  future calves..     The Lord has blessed us and cannot praise Him enough as he solves our trials and tribulations.

Trust we will all be in the church of our choice this Sunday worshiping and honoring Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

  God Bless America
