A Disaster Christian
by Steve Countryman

Being a disaster Christian is something that I’m sorry to say that I have experience in. Being a disaster Christian is a Christian who seems only to pray or cry out for God when faced with a disaster. The rest of the time not so much. It’s sad that most Christians fall into this category. It is similar to the Israelites going around the mountain for forty years.

Some would say that God brings the disasters in our lives to bring us back to Him. That He allows them to happen to get our attention. Where that may seem to be true the truth is that WE ARE TO BLAME! Think about it, when your walk with God isn’t as close as it should be or once was your mind wonders on to other things. It’s those other things that can “lead you” in the wrong direction. Taking your eyes off of God will cause you to drift away from God. It can start as a distraction or temptation but quickly moves into sin when it is out of God’s will for your life.

That’s when you end up leaving God’s path that includes His protection, provision, guidance, will, purpose, blessings, divine health, wisdom, knowledge and understanding. You open yourself up to attacks and unwanted consequences because of the sinful path you find yourself on.

Like a baby who is stuck on the “milk of the Word” the baby can’t do much for itself. It cries out for the basics, when it’s hungry, needs changing and wants attention. Being stuck as a baby Christian is not good for you are ALWAYS vulnerable, unprotected and needing the help of others to survive. Baby Christians find it very hard to STAND! To stand on God’s Word, to stand on God’s truth, to stand on God’s principles, to stand on God’s righteousness. So hard to stand that walking is an impossibility. If you can’t stand then you can’t advance and move forward in the things of God.

1 Corinthians 3:2-3 2”I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?”

Hebrews 5:12-14 12”In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”

The MEAT… Hebrews 6:1-3 1”Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And God permitting, we will do so.”

Live your life in God’s perfect will daily not like a baby or a “fair-weather” Christian!
