Toy Soldiers
by PamFord Davis

Big boy toys fill garages, workshops and back yards. Men once played with little boy toys. Mommy, Daddy and grandparents bought their boys cars, trucks, balls, six shooters and toy soldiers.

Imagine my surprise when given an Army green toy soldier at a recent woman’s meeting.

Perplexed, I palmed it and looked into the eyes of the church greeter.

When inside the sanctuary, I found a seat on a pew next to friends. Together, we enjoyed music solos and congregational singing. Guest speakers inspired us with stories about their missions’ involvement both at home and in foreign countries. I kept my toy soldier within reach…

Before closing with prayer, the moderator drew our attention to the toy soldiers. They were to be used as visual reminders to pray for our men and women serving in the military.

WOW! That is such a great idea.

We can pray for God’s merciful protection.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.’

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you (Psalm 91:1-7 NKJV).”
