Watering Holes
by PamFord Davis

My husband and I are big gulpers; we drink plenty of ice water and cold beverages.  When leaving home, we take Styrofoam glasses of ice water with us. Before long, we seek out the best watering holes.

To be honest, we don’t usually get water; instead, we buy 32 oz. iced teas and soft drinks. Did you know that 7-11 offers ‘Big Gulp’ beverages? I’m thankful for watering holes.

“Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.  For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills (Deuteronomy 8:6-7 NKJV).”

God leads us to the best sources of water.

“The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake (Psalm 23:1-3 NKJV).”

Feeling thirsty? Seeking refreshment? We can have a closer walk with the LORD. Jesus offers living water.

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (John 7:37-39 NKJV).”
