Spectacular Sky Show
by PamFord Davis

Anticipating the solar eclipse? Across America, multitudes will be looking upward in hopes of seeing the spectacular sky show. On a less dramatic note, when was the last time you caught the sight of a falling star? In a flash of light... now you see it, now you don’t! On clear nights, (when my husband drove 18 Wheelers) we were able to see several falling stars. They were awe inspiring.

Man’s fascination with stars begins early with childhood songs and stories. Lovers wish on them and song writers weave rhymes into star filled lyrics. One of my all time favorites is "Catch a Falling Star (and put it in your pocket)" by the ever popular Perry Como.

In the Book of Isaiah, we read of a decidedly different fall from heaven.

“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer,son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit (Isaiah 14:12-15 NKJV).”
