Breaking Through the Fog
by Nola Lorraine Passmore

Read 2 Corinthians 4:3-6

I live in a large inland city perched on top of a mountain.  When I first moved here, I couldn’t believe how foggy it got.  It was as if the clouds rolled across the valley and ran straight into the top of the mountain. During heavy fogs, you could only see a few metres in front of your car.  I was grateful I had a bright orange Datsun back then, so I was fairly sure other drivers could see me.  However, it wasn’t always easy for me to see them, especially if they didn’t have their headlights on.

The apostle Paul tells us that Satan has “blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ” (2 Cor. 4:4, NIV).   It's as if they are walking around in a perpetual fog, unable to see the light of Christ in front of them.  For believers, however, God has “made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ” (2 Cor. 4:6, NIV).  Just as headlights help us find our way in a physical fog, let's shine Christ's light into the world around us so that others might see his glory.
