HOSPITALITY 5
by Olawale Ogunsola “But seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, And all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33. New King James Version (NKJV).
After examining the lives of Abraham, Lot and the notable woman of Shunem, one can “rightly” conclude that, maybe, hospitality is reserved for the opulent.
This is not so!
Everybody has something he can use to be hospitable, rich or poor. That is the reason I will, by God’s grace, discuss the life and hospitality service of a widow at Zarephath.
Apostle Paul has these words to say, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, That you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable To God, which is your reasonable service…. Distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.” Romans 12:1,13.
The verses are for the rich and the poor.
How?
Do you know that the sacrifice involved in hospitality is valued and appreciated by the Creator? Many times it is not the size but the sacrifice. Sometimes, you may not pay attention to a stranger to show him kindness. Lack may block your ability to perceive. Yet there are strangers who will approach you or with someone close to you. On the day that Prophet Elijah met the widow of Zarephath, this woman was about to eat the last meal within her lone son and die.
WHAT IT INVOLVED
The woman exposed the contents of her bin and jar which could not meet the needs of the man of God, herself and her son. This provoked a prophetic pronouncement that nailed the coffin of her fears thus, “For thus says the Lord God of Israel:” the bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.” 1Kings 17:14.
And so was it!
. BENEFITS
The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run Dry, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by Elijah. Verse 15-16.
“Now by this I know that in your mouth is the truth.” 1Kings 17:24. Please, be hospitable! It has great rewards!
