Distracting Lies
by Steve Countryman

What we expect:

  • Punishment for our sins. We know that sinning is wrong and when a Christian does sin it is done by choice, on purpose.  Whereas non-Christians sin by nature.
  • Condemnation for our sins. Because we sin on purpose being condemned for our sins is expected.  For sins are an insult to the One who forgave us our sins and rescued us from our sinful past.
  • God must be planning our punishment for our sins. It is what we deserve!
  • We wait for God’s hammer to fall and crush us for sinning against Him.

 Satan’s plans:

  • He lies continually about our sins, our past, our future. He drags our failures, faults and flaws before us as a constant reminder.
  • He knows that if we sin then that becomes his weapon to use against us to keep us distracted from fulfilling God’s purpose and will for our lives.
  • If he can get us stuck in our sins then our thoughts and focus are ALWAYS on our sins instead on blessing others.
  • He wants us to feel helpless and hopeless because we have sinned.

 God’s desires for us:

  • He wants us to have victory over our sins. It’s like a child who is told not to go into the water.  One day he does and almost drowns.  His parents have the right to punish him for disobeying.  But God’s desire is to teach him to swim and have the victory over the dangers of the water!
  • God provides us His Word as the strategy we need to get past our sins and the distractions they cause.
  • Jesus provided the mercy and forgiveness to keep our sins in the past.
  • God wants unrestricted access to a purposeful life. An instrument for Him to use and utilize.  A conduit to allow His blessings to flow to and through to others!

 God’s goals for us:

  • He wants to get us past our sins. Stop dwelling on them, stop worrying about them, stop talking about them and stop allowing them to command our attention!
  • With the distraction and condemnation of sin removed from our lives we then can become useful, obedient, loving and willing servants of the Most High God.
  • We then are able to be blessed and to receive ALL the blessings that Father God has for us His children.
