THE LAW OF TITHES AND OFFERING

THE TRUTH

In Christian walk, what matters first and most is salvation of people’s souls from all wrongdoings and liberty from Satan’s den. Next is to love the Word of God that is a lamp unto everyone’s feet. The Holy Bible is our Living Manual that provides the all necessary guidelines to live a faithful, successful, fulfilled and pleasing life to the Lord our God.

As Christians, the best part that we can choose which cannot be taken from us is to remain as permanent students at the feet of Jesus Christ. We should learn from Him until our last minutes on the earth. This is the expectation of Christ from everyone who follows Him. He said,

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from me,

For I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you

Will find rest for your souls.”   Matthew 11:29.

Continuous learning will prevent us from straying from sound doctrines. It also matters most to allow the Holy Spirit to be resident in us so He can teach us all things, otherwise, flesh will take over the teaching and it will contradict the true intent of the Lord and His word.

The Lord Jesus assures in Luke 12:12,

“for the Holy Spirit will teach you…”

This is because, it is dangerous to serve the Lord without the Holy Spirit. Flesh based zeal cannot replace Him; a service without Him will be unacceptable to the Lord.

It was Apostle Paul that helped certain twelve disciples in Ephesus who were baptized with John’s baptism but have not heard about the Holy Spirit. He laid hand on them and they received the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues. (Acts 19:1-7).

Failure to allow the Spirit of God to teach you can give room for twisting the Word of God to your peril and those of others, God forbid.

That is why every Christian must be very careful to do all those things the Word of God instructs to do. The Holy Spirit must be allowed to teach and lead.

One of the Christian services that had become controversial is the issue of payment of Tithes and Offerings. I never love argument and I avoid it in every way.

 The reasons are:

  1. There is no place in the Scriptures where Christians are instructed to go into the world and argue with people. We are instructed to be “witnesses and make disciples of nations.” This cannot be achieved by argument.

  1. You can never win an argument. At the end of every debate, each party will hold tightly to his belief and “strong points” unyielding.

  1. It is far better to “reason together”. The Creator of the Universe also calls His people,

“Come now, let us reason together…”   Isaiah 1:18.

The Lord did not call His people to argue with Him.

Apostle Paul noted this and he went about “reasoning” with people in their temples and synagogues. Acts 17:22; 18:4, 19.

Based on the above, we are going to reason together here on payment of Tithes and Offerings. In this blog, we are committed to reasoning. Go to the home page of this blog and you will understand this better.

Everything we are discussing will be based on the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments. This will be carried out in series. Thanks for reading this introduction. Keep a date with us please. You will not regret it.

Stay blessed and prepared for the coming of Lord..
