True Identity
by PamFord Davis

The year, 1956.

The TV show, ‘To Tell the Truth.’

Panel members tried to reveal the identity of the man or woman in question. The others were imposters.

Who is Jesus? He queried His disciples.

“And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, ‘Who do the crowds say that I am (Matthew 16:13 KJV)?”

It seems that there was no clear cut answer from the populace. Some said this; some said that... and there are imposters (Matthew 24:4-5).

“And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets (Matthew 16:14 KJV).”

Just who is Jesus?

What did the Disciples, his followers believe?  Who is he?

“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am (Matthew 16:15 KJV)?”

It was no longer a question of public opinion or hearsay. Jesus was asking them what they believed, who they believed him to be.

Peter spoke up; Peter spoke the truth.

“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16 KJV).”

Simon Peter revealed the true identity of Jesus. He recognized and confessed Jesus as the Christ (Messiah) and affirmed his deity as Son of the living God.

How did Peter come to such a life changing conclusion?

“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 16:17 KJV).”
