TWENTY ONE DEGREES!
by Lewis E. Thomas

TWENTY ONE DEGREES!

The forecast in my area for tonight is twenty one degrees!
That makes for a very cold and hard freeze!

I slightly opened my outdoor faucets to let them drip slowly through the night!
I looked forward to my warm bed where I would snuggle up tight!

But my mind drifted away out there to those exposed to the cold wind!
To the homeless folks sleeping on the streets without a home or a friend!

I thanked God for my home and the food in my stomach with more stored here and there!
Then I began to lift up those homeless folks to God in prayer!

Can you imagine sleeping on a side walk or a park bench with it twenty one degrees!
Can you feel that cutting wind whipping across your face and your knees?

There are thousands on the streets every night as you snuggle up in your warm bed!
Tomorrow many of them may be dead!

We see them during the day on the corner holding their cardboard signs.
Think about that as you close this rhyme!

If it were you out there down and out.
"Wouldn't you want someone to help you out?"

Yes, some may spend the money on cigerettes or even a beer!
But help them out regardless and do it with godly cheer!

You see the Bible says we may entertain angels unaware!
That person with the sign may be an angel testing folks to see just who cares!

Show the Lord you have a compassionate heart for those in need!
Lest you offend His angel ending up homeless with "no one" to intercede!

Many have missed out on great blessings from Heaven above!
Because God saw them "refuse" to pour out on the poor His love!

Twenty One Degrees...
