I ASKED AN OLD SAILOR
by Lewis E. Thomas

I ASKED AN OLD SAILOR

I asked an old sailor who had spent his life upon the sea:
"Can you describe your God to me?"

As the old sailor pondered on his reply.
He bowed his head and began to cry!

He answered, "My God is indescribable but I will do my best!"
As great love for his Creator burned within his chest!

God has kept me through many Storms on Life's Sea!
He has always stood right next to me!

God is my anchor secured beyond The Vail!
God is The Wind in my sails!

God is my Compass on Life's Raging Sea!
God is always watching over me!

An old Rugged Cross stands at the Bow of My Ship!
And my heart is always in It's grip!

No "words on Earth" can apropriately describe my God above!
Only one word even comes close and that word is "LOVE"!

When Life's Storms are darkest my God guides my way!
He is my Hope and my Stay!

I have never gotten lost on Life's Sea!
Because my God is always holding me!

My God is AWESOME AND SUPREME!
My God is THE KING of kings!

My God is my High Priest and THE SON OF MAN!
And I am always in the palm of His hand!

The old sailor continued describing his God far into the night!
Until a Great Angel came down and took him up and away out of sight!

I asked an old sailor...
