Privy to the Call
by PamFord Davis

Pastors often testify about the time when they were ‘called to preach.’  They didn’t simply decide on it as a career while in conference with their high school guidance counselor.  If they had, they were doomed to fail. The pastorate is a calling from God.

He called specific men to serve as priests to the people of Israel.

“And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons (Exodus 28:1 KJV).”

The work of minister, a pastor is a divine calling.

Apostle Paul’s calling came on a Damascus road.

“And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do (Acts 9:3-6 KJV).”

Ananias was privy to the call.

“But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake (Acts 9:15-16 KJV).”

The call…

“And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron (Hebrews 5:4 KJV).”
