Security, 24-7
by PamFord Davis

In my opinion, security guards fail to receive the recognition they deserve. They offer protection for people and property in public places and businesses. Often, they are unnoticed. Security guards carry out their assigned tasks day-by-day.

My Dad’s work day took him away from home for the second shift at General Electric, Syracuse, NY. He worked there until his retirement; as a security guard, for nearly 25 years. One of my grandfathers and an uncle were also on the General Electric guard force. In many ways it was like serving in the military or in law enforcement. If I’m not mistaken, my Uncle Bob earned the rank of Corporal.

People could have easily mistaken Dad for a NY State Trooper when dressed in full uniform. There were times when he agreed to direct traffic at the scene of vehicle accidents. Drivers respected the uniform. I loved the man wearing it.

I love and worship the One who guards my heart…

“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 HCSB).”

The peace of God offers security 24-7.  Night watchmen have been known to nod off while on duty; God never grows weary.
