A Journal of Love
by Donna Wittlif

“It shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation. They shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it” (Psalm 22: 30-31).

Did you ever meet someone who did not know the day and year of his birthday? I have. In the United States, very few people do not know their birthday.

We like to mark anniversaries such as birthdays, weddings, births, and vacations that leave us with happy memories. We keep pictures and records of these blessed occasions. Looking through photo albums can remind us of the good things in our lives and bring happiness into our hearts.

What would it be like if we kept a journal of God’s blessings to us? Wouldn’t we include some of the above landmarks in our lives? Certainly. We should include the spiritual anniversaries like the day and year we were baptized. It would be wonderful to have an album that told when we found God’s guidance in the scriptures or when a Bible verse uplifted our spirits and gave us new hope. We could write down the time(s) we won the battle over a major sin in our lives and renewed our walk with God.

If we had a list of all the wonderful things God has done for us and could remember His blessings to us, wouldn’t we have cause to celebrate God’s goodness? When someone asks us, “What has the Lord done for you?”, we could show them our album. We would say, “God has lifted up the light of His countenance upon us, and He has put gladness in our hearts” (Psalm 4: 6-7).

Wouldn’t it make our hearts beat with love and praise for God if we could go back and review all the beautiful things He has done for us? We could tell our children and grandchildren, “This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:23).

Hymn: “O Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we never forget your bountiful blessings toward us. In Jesus name. Amen.
