Command and Promise
by PamFord Davis

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day.

We‘re all indebted to our mothers; next month we will recognize fathers.

How well do we honor our parents?

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee (Exodus 20:12 KJV).”

It is a command with a blessing.

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth (Ephesians 6:1-3 KJV).”

Do today’s children respect their parents?

“Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord (Colossians 3:20 KJV).”

Many of our parents are deceased.

That does not free us from the command.

As a memorial, we honor our mothers and fathers with gratitude for their countless sacrifices.
