Unsure Footing
by PamFord Davis

Most of us have witnessed and ‘laughed at’ slapstick comedy.

I think a pie in the face likely tops the list but the slipping on a banana peel scenario is not far behind. I’m not sure why people find falling funny; if I fall, I’m frightened. It’s a fact; as a senior citizen I’m susceptible to injuries due to falls. Many slip on throw rugs in their homes, slip in their showers or slip on icy steps and sidewalks outside.

“If I say, ‘My foot is slipping,’
Your faithful love will support me, Lord (Psalm 94:18 HCSB).”

Spiritually speaking, I always need the LORD’s help.

When in danger of falling victim to Satan’s temptations, I find myself in desperate need. Like the Psalmist, I cry out for mercy. I might lose my footing but I need never fear. His hand of mercy and grace will hold me up. Through eyes of faith, I visualize him reaching out for me, rescuing me before I reach the murk and mire of sin.

As protective Father, he comes to my rescue. Raising me back to my feet, he draws me close to his side and wraps me in a warm embrace. He is my help, my shield and my salvation.
