Success is NOT Really Success
by Daniel Dela Dunoo

Once met an elderly man while taking a stroll

He commented thus:

Do you know, my son, Success is NOT really success?

That baffled me greatly

Had no clue what he meant to say

And so I pleaded with him to expatiate

In a high-pitched voice he quipped,

Success is NOT really success

Success is NOT really what many people think it is

He begun to uncover the wrappings around his emphatic comments

These were his words:

Success is NOT really success

When you are wealthy BUT NOT healthy

When you are very rich and yet very insecure

When you amass great wealth by exploiting others

Success is NOT really success

When you are rich in cash and properties BUT a spiritually bankrupt

When you are fabulously rich BUT are saddled with messed-up relationships

When you are opulent and extravagant BUT do not care about the plight of the poor

When you have made a mark in your field of work BUT are morally bankrupt

Indeed, success is NOT really success

When you achieve high academic laurels at the expense of your mental health

When have landed your dream job BUT you are too unwell to accept the job offer.

When you attain enviable heights BUT have a broken home

When you are at the top of the corporate ladder BUT your children are delinquent

Success is NOT really success

When your success does NOT translate into the good of society

When in spite of your immense wealth, you failed to leave an inheritance for your wards

When you go up only to come down

When you fall from GRACE to Grass

When you do not have a successor
