Storm Warnings
by PamFord Davis

Weather forecasting is a science.

Highly trained meteorologists prepare hourly, daily, 10-day and even monthly long term weather forecasts. Once hit or miss TV newscast segments have been replaced with accurate forecasts. The weather men and women cannot ‘guarantee’ sunshine; to be on the safe side, we might want to carry our umbrellas! What about their storm warnings?

Do we take their warnings seriously?

“Can anyone understand how the clouds spread out
or how the thunder roars from God’s pavilion?
See how He spreads His lightning around Him
and covers the depths of the sea.
For He judges the nations with these;
He gives food in abundance.
He covers His hands with lightning
and commands it to hit its mark.
The thunder declares His presence;
the cattle also, the approaching storm (Job 36:29-33 HCSB).”

My husband and I don’t own cattle but when our dog Skippy hears thunder, he finds cover. Many animals become fearful in thunderstorms; they sense the dangers.

I should be alert to dangers; yet, I must not allow fears to overwhelm me. The LORD provides a safe refuge.

“The one who lives under the protection of the Most High
dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust (Psalm 91:1-2 HCSB).”
