Nathan, Nathaniel and Noah were glad their summer vacation had ended.

The friends actually enjoyed school because they were thrilled with learning. A week before classes resumed, the three friends invited their classmates to attend what Noah called “a back-to-school lakeside celebration party.”

The teens attended a Christian school, and they were very happy school officials insisted on putting the Lord Jesus Christ first in the institution’s activities. “God is the author of learning, knowledge and wisdom,” opined Nathan, so He should always be honored.”

After graduation from high school, Nathan planned to attend seminary and serve as a pastor in a foreign nation. “I want to preach the gospel to those who have never heard about salvation through Jesus Christ,” he remarked.

Although Nathaniel and Noah didn’t feel God calling them into the same type of missionary ministry as Nathan, they both wanted to be part of his ministry team. “I am going to write a series of books about Old Testament prophets for you to share with your church,” Nathaniel said.

“And I’m going to write a book about water-based stories in the Bible,” Noah promised. “The stories will be fictional, but based on Bible stories. Stories will include one about the Genesis flood and one about Jesus walking on water.”

Nathan and his girlfriend, Nancy, planned to marry after graduating from college, and Nancy was looking forward to ministering alongside Nathan.

Nathaniel’s girlfriend, Nevaeh, volunteered to help write his book about Old Testament prophets. “I’ll also proofread the book before it is printed,” Nevaeh promised.

Noah’s girlfriend, Naomi, didn’t feel she had much writing talent. “I’ll help you come up with names of your book’s characters, though,” she pledged.

More than 100 of the students who had been invited attended the “back-to-school lakeside celebration party” and were excited for the activities to begin. As per the request on the printed invitations, some of the students brought non-Christian friends to the celebration.

Noah began the celebration with a short prayer, asking the Lord to bless the refreshments. Nathan delivered a short devotion, which he concluded by inviting those who were not Christians to ask Jesus to forgive their sins and live in their hearts.

About 20 attendees, including five students who had never before professed faith in Christ, responded to an invitation to accept Jesus and then were baptized.

Noah had brought along a few fishing poles to the lake. He picked up a pole, began walking toward the water, and said, “Anyone want to join me in catching a few fish?”

“You’re slow, today, Noah,” smiled Nathaniel. “The Lord’s already caught a few and brought them unto Himself!”

“And none of them got away!” exclaimed Nathan. “None of them!”
