Powers of Darkness

‘Trick or Treat!’

As a child, I looked forward to Halloween.

As a child of God, I dread its arrival.

Recently, my husband Norm and I were in a waiting area of a local office. Norm was entertaining a group of kids with his ear wiggling and sound effects abilities. They were fascinated! Making conversation, I said that the fair was coming to town. It was then that one of the young children brought up the subject of Halloween.

A boy, barely old enough to talk, said he was going to be ‘Freddy Krueger.’ I’ve never seen the movie that featured the character; nor, do I plan to. It sounds horrible. There are evil forces behind the Halloween observance.

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens (Ephesians 6:11-12 HCSB).”

Evil really exists.

Having thoughts that the devil and witches are only make-believe? Beware; do not be tricked (deceived)! The occult is real and it is an abomination. The LORD will bring judgment.

“And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers (Micah 5:12 KJV).”

* Soothsayers: fortune tellers
