IDOL'S

Thought: Webster comes to the rescue again describing the meaning of the word IDOL. "An image that is worshiped. One that is blindly adorned." The word blindly got my attention as I have personally observed thousands in a state of blind worship over their movie and music idols. Contemplating such behavior I discovered that mankind has replaced that void in their heart reserved only for God with these worldly substitutes. It could be anything like sports, computers, tech toys, movies ,games, drugs, sex, jobs, money, clothes, and the list goes on. When those things become an obsession and replace God in their lives they become idol's.

Even though the Lord proved his presence to the Israeli's through numerous miracles along their journey to the promised land they created for themselves their own God, the golden calf, to worship in place of the great I AM. In Biblical times there were over 8,747 false Gods pagans worshiped. Why are people drawn to other Gods or obsessions in our world today? I believe the root cause is Biblical literacy. These idols have robbed the time they could be studying the Word of God and interacting with Him through prayer. The Word is the basis for all TRUTH. It sets a presidence for every major decision we make. We can always test those decisions with God's spoken Word to make the best choices for ourselves, family members, friends and loved ones.

As Christians, born again in spirit, we need to recognize our idols, confess them to the Lord and relinquish them putting God back on the throne in our hearts and filling that void with Jesus. This nation is in need of a great spiritual revival in order for it's people to come back to God and the Christian principals America was founded upon. Christians everywhere should be praying for that to happen.

Prayer: Father God, help me to stay focused on you and the most important things in my life and not get sidetracked with things of the world that tend to pull my attention in the wrong direction stealing the time I could be spending with you. Amen

Verse: Rom. 12:2 " Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how His ways will really satisfy you."
