10, 2 and 4
by PamFord Davis

I was a teen in the 1960’s. Like most teenage girls, I was an avid viewer of American Bandstand. I liked Dick Clark and hearing the hit records. The best part was getting to see live appearances by guest recording artists. Seeing American Bandstand so often, I even remember two of the advertisers: Clearasil and Dr. Pepper.

I used Clearasil. At that time, Dr. Pepper was not even available in Central New York State.

Dr. Pepper had a very popular advertising slogan.

It was ‘10-2 and 4 O’clock.’

They wanted prospective customers to form a habit. The advertising firm hoped that people would take Dr. Pepper breaks (three times a day).

Daniel prayed.

“We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.’

So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: ‘King Darius, live forever! All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter.’ Therefore King Darius signed the written decree.

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days (Daniel 6:5b-10 NKJV).”
