SPEAKING OF GUILE IS NOT DIVINE
by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE

Scriptural Reading: I Peter 2:22-25

‘‘For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:’’ I Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV)

As an unbeliever, I was privileged to be in a wrong association where friends find it convenient using foul languages. I felt it was just a normal thing. But when I became born again such foul languages irritated me and I do not like hearing them any longer. The backbone of guile is in lies and fraudulent engagement. In the book of Revelation 14:4-5 was a revelation of 144,000 saints who were able to make it to the throne of God, who were virgins and there was no lie found in their lips and were blameless before the throne of God. They did not yield themselves to any form of guile and God was proud of them.

Our scriptural reading where we took our text from in the book of I Peter 2:22-25, Jesus was a perfect example of a true leader who no sin could be traceable to Him nor deceit (guile) found in His lips. When He was insulted, He did not fight back but maintained a high level of restraint. This same Jesus offered Himself as a sacrificial lamb for the sin of humankind and became the Shepherd and the Bishop of our souls.

God is a righteous father who maintains a high level of uprightness, purity, and holiness. No one can approach Him, except with clean hands. That is why He does not want us to be involved in anything that involves lies, fraud, craftiness, cheating of others, etc. All these are satanic devices that helps mortgage the soul for destruction in a subtle way. The Almighty God is very wise and He is more than a million steps ahead of the Devil and He wants us to be wise as well and not to fall prey to lies or any form of deceit in our daily living.

Is there any benefit of not speaking guile?  The answer is ‘YES’. Here is an anchor scripture we can always apply as a solution provider to the above question for our daily living. ‘‘For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:’’ I Peter 3:10 (KJV). When we keep our tongue free from speaking deceit, life will work well to our advantage and we will see good days, live in peace and harmony always.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, carry out a spiritual surgery in my tongue and let every form of guile in my lips be dismantled permanently. Amen

True words are essential balms that heal the wounds of deceit.
