DIVINE SAFETY IN EMERGENCY

Scriptural Reading: Exodus 9:24-26

‘‘Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.’’                     Exodus 9:26 (KJV)

In times of national emergencies, a buffer zone is usually a safe haven as it helps to shelter the vulnerable from every stormy blast. This a time when people begin to value the importance of peace and safety the most. National governments would have to put in place several adequate measures to arrest this ugly trend as soon as possible. This is the case with God.

Where we took our scriptural reading from in Exodus 9:24-26, there was a case of a national disaster that took place in the land of Egypt. There was hail mingled with fire which affected the lives of humankind, animals and vegetations by breaking down every herb of the field. There was tension in the land, but God secured His own people who were in the land of Goshen and the ravaging disaster could not get to them. God knows how to secure His people in times of trouble.

God is our shield and buckler, and our present help in trouble. He wants humankind to always be in His camp so that His defence will continuously rest on them that put their trust in Him. Sometimes in our nation, there are instances of national emergencies or conflict, but one would be able to see that God has kept His people far away from these unforeseen tendencies. Whenever there is tension in our nation, the best person to call on first is God before the government. To be in God’s arena of safety, such a fellow must be a friend of God. This is what God has promised us through His word in the book of Psalm 91:10 ‘There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.’ God is a father who values safety and knows how to keep His people safe in times of trouble. He is our rock and fortress.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, keep me and every member of my family safe in the hollows of your hands and let us be far from any spiritual and physical disaster. Amen.

Safety in times of distress is a burden rolled away and tears being wiped off.
