Scriptural Reading: I Samuel 17:45-47

‘‘Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.’’  I Samuel 17:45 (KJV)

I have come to realize in life that any back up outside God is a waste of time. As a growing child in the village, there was this native doctor closed to our house. Different people came to consult him for help. One fateful day, the news came to us that one of the wives was involved in a ghastly motor accident and that she was dead. The working syllabus of this renowned native doctor did not cover death prevention. Only in God is our back up guaranteed as believers. Another incidence happened of a picture of a man I saw who tied charms around his body, yet he was involved in a bomb blast that took his life.  

In I Samuel 17:45-47, there was a stiff competition between David and Goliath in a battle for supremacy. While David relied on God for his back up, Goliath was confident of his war gadgets. The Almighty God granted David victory before the Philistines when we read further to verse 58. God saves His anointed from defeat. The righteous are above the law of defeat.

God is a superstar and He is more than an iron bender, and anyone that relies on Him and asks for His backing gets victory on a platter of gold. God does not want us to rely on any negative spiritual back up other than Him. He is able to keep us safe from all evil.

How can we enjoy divine back up? This is very simple. We have to behave as David did by relying on God in everything that he did and to call on God continuously as our shield and buckler and to pray using the scripture to claim the promises God has for us. Also, here is a supporting scripture we can hold on to for God’s backing to achieve victory over all our foes. ‘And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him.’ I Samuel 18:14 (KJV). Living a life that is pleasing to God gives us access to divine back up at all times.

Dear Father, help me to rely on you so that I can get your backing at all times and to walk my ways to victory in all that I do through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

           Divine backing is a counterattack against defeat and it is an embrace to victory.
