DIVINE LONGEVITY
by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE

Scriptural Reading: Job 5:26-27

‘‘And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.’’ Genesis 15:15 (KJV)

As an African, whenever I hear of an aged person let say of 90 years of age and above who died, I would always say if the person had engaged in sin, such a fellow would not have lasted up to that extent. I may be wrong, I may be right. My late father-in-law died at the age of 102 years and he was buried on April 27th, 2019. It was a celebration of life. But even at 200 years we still do not wish to lose our dear ones. Come to think of what Proverbs 10:27 (KJV) says- ‘The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.’

Job offered these simple prayers that we would come to our graves in ripe old age and this is the divine master plan for us and it stands sure for God’s people. Let us say Amen. So shall it be.

The Almighty God is a God of longevity and prosperity, and that is why He said in the book of Psalms 91:16 that He would satisfy us with long life. God wants us to fear Him and to eschew iniquity so that He can extend our lives here on earth. When we live long here on earth, we can become relevant to our families and to the body of Christ at large.

Do we also know that God can still make us be like job in this present world? The answer is YES if and only if we do not engage in iniquity. When we live in holiness and righteousness, standing for the truth, not engaging in uncleanness, etc, our lives can be extended by God. We can also apply this following scripture in our prayers on a daily basis for long life. Job 42:17 (KJV) ‘So Job died, being old and full of days.’ As God gave Job long life, He will give us in Jesus name. Amen.

Dear father, you are the giver of long life and this is your will for us. As you gave your son Job long life, give me and my family long life and make Psalms 91:16 to be our portion through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The life of the righteous is longer than the life of the wicked.
