Scriptural Reading: Job 5:15-16

‘‘And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that thy children shall come again to their own border.’’  Jeremiah 31:17 (KJV)

Many years ago my dad told me this story of a young man who was a medical student at the University of Benin, Nigeria. According to my dad, this medical student had just one shirt and trouser. Each time this medical student visited the sister’s place; he would tie the sister’s wrapper and wash his one shirt and trouser and hang it on the line, and he would wait for the shirt and trouser to get dried and he would wear it and go back to campus. This was how this medical student who was a poor boy continued in his schooling and God was with him and God did not fail him.

Our Bible passage records that God saves the poor from the hands of the wicked and from the clutches of the powerful, and that there is always hope for the poor and God puts injustice far away from their domains. The poor are in God’s master plan and He shares in our plights as well and He will give us relief in the latter part of our lives.

The God of the mountains is still the God of the low places, He will give beauty for ashes and He would regard our helpless estate. He wants us to always see Him as our last hope and to love one another and not to oppress anybody because of their helpless situations. He wants us to always show them a sense of belonging and to let them know that there is hope for everyone who believes in God.

We who are the poor can still hope in God in our conditions and to see God as the only true father that cares always and let us not lose faith in God. Let us hold on to God firmly in all things and remain committed to serving Him and this scripture will be a good guide for us to always hold on to when life seems to be unfair to us all. ‘This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.’  Psalms 34:6 (KJV)

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to you today helpless with all my problems, be not far away from me, come and help me and give me permanent relief and take away every ugly situation I am in. Amen

            When help fails, faith decreases but when help is available hope raises.
