Arm in Arm
by PamFord Davis

We walked arm in arm.

Today, friends offer words of sympathy to the family of Jerry McAvan.

We once walked arm in arm.

He was best man at his brother Patrick’s wedding. As maid of honor to my best friend Carol, we walked down the aisle of the Fayettevile, New York church.

The years have flown; that was over 52 years ago.

I had not seen Jerry for 50 years. We were reunited in the summer of 2017. Together, we celebrated Carol and Patrick’s 50th wedding anniversary. Time changes all of us; yet, I was taken aback by Jerry’s decline in health. He could barely stand for wedding party photos. Jesus, our Redeemer is coming again; He will stand!

“For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth;
And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me (Job 19:25-27 NKJV)!

Our hearts long for Christ Jesus.

He awaits us.

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.’

Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?’

Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:2-6 NKJV).”
