Ask Egypt

What’s your hail story?

Hail as small as pea sized can cause damage to vehicles. I hope I’m never in the line of fire if golf ball sized hail falls from above! Our family experienced a brief (but destructive) hail storm when living in Uvalde, Texas.

My husband had a beautiful vegetable garden wiped out in minutes. I think we had windows broken in our home as well. I distinctly remember that our daughter’s pet poodle was terrified. In another Texas storm, my mother woke up one morning and had had just left her bedroom...

Hail shattered the window directly behind her bed; leaving broken glass on the bed coverings. God was surely watching over her; it was one of those horrifying ‘what if’ scenarios. We are aware of the dangers of lightning; I’m not sure we take hail as seriously.

We should.

“Now the Lord said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that hail may fall on all the land of Egypt, on man and on beast and on every plant of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.’  Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt.  So there was hail, and fire flashing continually in the midst of the hail, very severe, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. The hail struck all that was in the field through all the land of Egypt, both man and beast; the hail also struck every plant of the field and shattered every tree of the field.  Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, there was no hail (Exodus 9:22-26 NASB).”
