Flapjacks
by PamFord Davis

Sometimes I have a one-track mind. I frequently use foods as a theme in my writing; today, I have pancakes on my mind. I begin with thoughts of Dad. He sure liked his pancakes (and donuts). I wonder how many times he poured Central NY maple syrup over stacks of pancakes. Mom cooked our family’s pancakes on a cast iron griddle. Flapjacks for a family of five growing children…

'Green Acres' Lisa Douglas never mastered the knack of cooking flapjacks. Someone else did her cooking back in New York City; turning the cakes when they were ready.

“Ephraim mixes himself with the nations;
Ephraim has become a cake not turned.
Strangers devour his strength,
Yet he does not know it;
Gray hairs also are sprinkled on him,
Yet he does not know it.
Though the pride of Israel testifies against him,
Yet they have not returned to the Lord their God,
Nor have they sought Him, for all this (Hosea 7:8-10 NASB).”

I’ll say one thing for Lisa Douglas. Morning-after morning, she returned to her Green Acres kitchen. We are at a critical time in our world. We must return to the LORD as individuals, families and nations.

It's time to ‘turn’ back to God.
