The Right Kind of Church
by Tonja Taylor

“A new church is being built on the west side of town!” I said. “Isn’t that great?”

The woman, much older than me, whom I’d considered deeply committed to the LORD said, “Is it a black church or a white church?”

I am sure my surprise showed on my face. After a few seconds, I just looked at her and said, “It’s a brick church!”

Fast forward about 30 years. I have been often surprised–not to mention disappointed–when I have heard saints remark about a fellow saint’s weight, or color, or whatever. What difference does it make? I would think, a bit frustrated at the lack of depth of these people. Not that I nor any of us are totally spiritual. But we are supposed to be working on it!

Anyway, we all like to look good, but who sets the standards? Even if someone did set them for “all people” for once, that standard would change the next day!

Thank the LORD that Christ alone is The Standard! Amen and Amen!

And in Heaven, every person--no matter their weight, color, race, language, background, hobbies, talents, skills, money, neighborhood, or anything else except their committed belief in Jesus Christ as Savior and LORD--will be accepted! So THE Church will be a living rainbow!

John 8:15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.

1 Corinthians 3:18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise.

2 Corinthians 10:2 I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world.

1 Peter 4:6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
