Sentimental Celebration
by PamFord Davis

I’m feeling sentimental.

It’s not sadness for the passing of another year or decade. Instead, I’m grateful for more than 5 decades of marriage to my beau and best friend. Celebrating our 52nd wedding anniversary on December 30th; we plan to mark the occasion with a  short trip out of town.

52 years…

We had our first date on May 26, 1967. I might add that it was a blind date.

Yes, blind dates are risky; neither of us knew what to expect. In this case it was well worth the risk. Opposites do attract. This Syracuse Yankee gal fell in love with the WNDR Radio ‘Good Guy Rebel.’  We dated through the summer; became engaged in autumn and exchanged wedding vows after Christmas. Our first home was in Leland, Mississippi.

1 + 1 = 1

The equation may not be mathematically sound.

It is spiritually sound.

“But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’  ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,  and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh (Mark 10:6 NKJV).”

Rev. Richard Bond shared a beautiful scripture passage during our marriage ceremony.

“But Ruth said:

“Entreat me not to leave you,
Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go;
And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people,
And your God, my God.
Where you die, I will die,
And there will I be buried.
The Lord do so to me, and more also,
If anything but death parts you and me (Ruth 1:16-17 NKJV).”
