He Could Never Forget You
by Tonja Taylor

Sometimes, especially when things are hard, we may feel that God forgets about us. If we can’t sense His presence with us, or it it seems like we have been praying and receiving no answer, it can seem like He is very far away and does not care.

But that is never the case. He is more near than our breath! And when we become born again by asking Him (Jesus, the virgin-born Son of God) to forgive us and cleanse us of our sins and live in our hearts as our Savior and LORD (John 3:16), then He is faithful to answer and be with us forever!

The following verse is just one proof in the unchanging, infallible, living Word of God that proves that God could never forget us: Isaiah 49:15-16 (AMPC), says: 15 [And the Lord answered] Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. 16 Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands; [O Zion] your walls are continually before Me.

I found a picture years ago that speaks volumes to me about this. It is a picture of a tiny newborn, with a head full of dark hair, held carefully and very tenderly between two huge male hands, and it is apparent in the picture that these hands are those of one who loves this child.

Underneath, the caption reads, “There are two ways to look at life. One is as though nothing were a miracle. The other is as though everything were a miracle. --Albert Einstein”

The artist who painted the picture, and especially the person who held in his hands this real, tiny, precious little newborn human must have been incredibly humbled at the sanctity, innocence, and amazing potential of this little life—this miracle “seed” that will grow and blossom and become a mighty “tree” on the earth!

God holds us in His hands as carefully even more closely than the man in the photo held so tenderly this child—that may have not even been his.

But when we receive Jesus the Son, the eternal God—Yahweh!--becomes our true Father, our Abba, Who adopts us on purpose to lavish His amazing, generous Love on us! Jesus is then our Covenant Brother and Best Friend—bringing into reality what He already did at the cross—engrave our names forever on His heart and His (nail-pierced!) hands!

Hebrews 13:5, “Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]”

Our Covenant God is faithful—He IS faithfulness, and He cannot be unfaithful, as 2 Timothy 2:13 states:If we are faithless [do not believe and are untrue to Him], He remains true (faithful to His Word and His righteous character), for He cannot deny Himself.”

Parents and other authority figures are supposed to be examples of God, Sadly, that is often not the case, and even the best human parent could never be perfect. So as humans, until we learn differently by spending time with God in His Word, His Presence at church and with Him in our private time in prayer and worship and more, we tend to think God acts and thinks like regular people. That is almost never the case.

God IS love and He IS mercy and He IS faithfulness, but most of us have had challenges believing He is with us, loves us so much He is not thinking about how we’ve messed up—but instead how Jesus’ blood covers us and makes us beautiful to Him. So, even though you are born again, if you’ve been hit with doubt and unbelief about the LORD’s love and faithfulness toward you, say this prayer out loud:

“Dear Father in Heaven, thank You that You sent Jesus Your Son to die for me, and that He does live in my heart, because I asked forgiveness for my sins and received Him as Savior and LORD. I repent for letting my feelings and the devil lie to me that You are not near or don’t care. You care more than I know, and thank You for loving me so much You sent Jesus to die for me and rise again so I could live a victorious life of peace and freedom!

I know that 1 John 5:14 and 15 says that, when I pray in Your will, I know You hear me and I have what I ask. So I ask You to comfort me and help me remember that You are with me always. Help me read Your Word and watch and do things that keep my mind on You. I know I am praying in Your will right now, and I thank You that I have what I ask. You are so good. In Jesus’ name, amen!”

Say it as often as you feel you need to. Print it off and put it in your Bible, by your bed, on the refrigerator, or anywhere you will see it and repeat it. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. On earth, we often have to repeat things to get them into our hearts and minds so they can become reality to us. Go fot it and know that, no matter how you feel, GOD IS WITH YOU ALWAYS and helping you draw close to him!
