ZACCHEUS

Zaccheus was a man of greed

He didn’t know he was in need;

He lacked spiritual health.

Though his purse was fat and swollen,

His worldly riches were mostly stolen,

He lived off ill-gotten wealth.

One day Jesus came to town,

Preceded by His glory renown—

This man from Galilee.

Though Zaccheus was very short in size,

He desired to see Jesus with his own eyes;

Then he saw a sycamore tree.

Zaccheus climbed the tree that day

An the LORD soon walked his way

Surrounded by a crowd.

Then to Zaccheus’ shock and surprise,

Jesus looked up into his eyes,

Zaccheus was stunned and wowed.

Jesus loved him much and said,

Zaccheus, come down, and we’ll break bread.

I’m coming to your house to dine!”

Zaccheus, I’m sure, he sat in thought

Amazed in the tree where he was caught

By this man who spoke so kind.

This little man, he knew right then—

That in spite of all his sin—

In Jesus he believed.

Forgiven of sin while in a tree,

The promise holds for you and me;

By Jesus’ blood, from our sin we’re freed!

With great joy upon his face,

Zaccheus came to receive his grace.

--And gaze upon the LORD.
