A Pathway No One Knew Was There
by sandra snider

Scene: Northwest airline group check-in ticket counter. Our daughter is leaving for Spain for a semester of study.

Problem: At the very inconvenient last minute, two bulky 35 mm cameras have to be packed for a photography class to be taken abroad.

Internal conversation with God: "How is this going to happen? All the students already have bulging backpacks and carry-ons and stuffed suitcases at or near the 50-pound limit."

God's response: "You don't need to know. I have a hidden pathway no one knows is there."

Scenario pans out: The cameras get delivered to curbside and after some brief cell phone communication, my husband runs out to retrieve the unwelcome items from the college professor. He hurries back to the check-in area, dangling two beefy 35mm cameras from his arms and with a look on his face that asks, "Ok, we have the cameras. Now what?" My daughter rearranges some items in her backpack and shoves one of the cameras down and in.

More internal conversation with God: "OK, Lord. Now what? We still have another camera to pack."

Scenario pans out further: A late-arriving student falls in line right behind our daughter. A few seconds later I hear daughter ask, "Do you happen to have any room in your carry-on for this camera?"

God reveals the pathway no one knew was there: "Yeah, I got room!" she says with a smile. She willingly takes the cumbersome camera, unzips her bag, plops it in and zips it back up. No problem.

"Your way was in the sea, your path in the great waters, and your footsteps were not known." (Psalm 77:19)
