True Love Never Dies
by Faith Noles

They married so young, just kids in their teens,

He was a dashing soldier and she was a backwoods queen.

He held her close to him and as he looked into her eyes,

She said I’ll be waiting for you because true love never dies.

True love never dies, it will stand the test of time,

No matter what life brings, I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine.

Through sickness or health, though rich or poor,

You’re always in my heart and I’m yours forever more.

War made the soldier crippled,

He saw things he shouldn’t have seen,

Would she still love him after everywhere he’d been?

His body wracked with pain, heart wounded and sore

Would his darling need him? Would she want him anymore?

True love never dies, it will stand the test of time,

No matter what life brings, I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine.

Through sickness or health, though rich or poor,

You’re always in my heart and I’m yours forever more.

This love could not be shaken as they weathered every storm,

The ties grew even stronger with each child that was born,

They raised their children together; safe, all but one,

A knife pierced their hearts when they lost a precious son.

They carried on through life, some bad times and some good,

Every step they took, they did the best  they could.

It seemed the love grew stronger with each passing day,

They clung to each other as they journeyed on their way.

Ravages of time can play some dirty tricks,

As the princess lies in bed, her mind lost and sick.

But the cords can’t be broken, the love is still strong,

Because in each other’s arms is where they belong.

As he stretches out his feeble hand to touch his aging bride,

He pulls her closer to him, near to his side.

You can see the care and tenderness, the spark in Daddy’s eyes,

And know that no matter what--true love never dies.

This is a true story.
