Obeying the Royal Law
by PamFord Davis

Love your neighbor.

Many today live in large cities and gated communities. They don’t even know their neighbors.

Love your neighbor.

It’s not a new concept.

“Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am Yahweh (Leviticus 19:18 HCSB).”

The LORD has issued a royal decree.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.

‘The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these (Mark 12:30-31 HCSB).”

Am I obeying the royal law?

“Indeed, if you keep the royal law prescribed in the Scripture, Love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well.  But if you show favoritism, you commit sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.  For whoever keeps the entire law, yet fails in one point, is guilty of breaking it all.  For He who said, Do not commit adultery, also said, Do not murder. So if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you are a lawbreaker.

Speak and act as those who will be judged by the law of freedom.  For judgment is without mercy to the one who hasn’t shown mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:8-13 HCSB).”

In mercy we triumph!

“Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law (Romans 13:10 HCSB).”
