Looking Back, BC
by PamFord Davis

Looking back at my life…

BC… before Christ.

BC… before confessing my sins.

BC… before confessing Jesus as Savior and LORD.

I echo the words of Job.

“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,
But now my eye sees You.
Therefore I abhor myself,
And repent in dust and ashes (Job 42:5-6 NKJV).”

Yes, I had heard about Jesus.

Intellectually, I believed He was the Son of God. I believed He was born in Bethlehem; that He died on a cross and rose on Easter Sunday.

I believed but I had not seen Him through the eyes of faith.

He opened my eyes.

I saw myself as a sinner in need of forgiveness.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 NKJV).”

BC… before cleansing.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 NKJV).”

I confessed my sins; I confessed the Lord Jesus. In faith, I believed.

“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10 NKJV).”

I have confessed Jesus publicly. I am saved.

“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven (Matthew 10:32 NKJV).”
