Cookouts
by PamFord Davis

Gentlemen start your engines…

No, wait; that’s not right.

Gentlemen fire up your grills.

Like bears coming out of hibernation, gentlemen are coming out of their man caves.

They’ve waited impatiently for summertime cookouts. July 4th is only weeks away and the outdoor chefs are chomping at the bit. They’ll choose their favorite barbecue sauces and choice cuts of meat or chicken.

The less confident will arrange charcoal bricks and grill hamburgers and hot dogs. Outdoors-men will place wood on a campfire and cook fish from a nearby stream, lake or river.

Gentlemen fire up your grills.

As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire,
So is a contentious man to kindle strife (Proverbs 26:21 NKJV).”

Are men contentious?

Sadly, some men are always ready to pick a fight.

“The beginning of strife is like releasing water;
Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts (Proverbs 17:14 NKJV).”

Nobody wants quarrels at their cookouts; gentlemen, baste the entree.

Time to eat; come and get it!
