Stone in Your Sling
by Tonja Taylor

What is the stone in your sling?

King David (although he was first a shepherd boy; a teenager when he killed Goliath!) did not use carnal means to kill the giant, but his human weapons, skills, and preparation plus his faith in God.

(Personally, I believe an angel helped guide that stone David slung and caused it to penetrate Goliath's ugly skull. I don't think David's strength alone could have caused that. But the LORD our God was his Help--and is ours!)

He did not gather stones on the way, no, he kept them with him at all times, always prepared, according to one well-known minister in his commentary Bible.

I believe that David kept the Rock of the Word with him at all times. Of course, He did not have the written Bible like we have today. But he had a deep relationship with the Living God, Who inspired him to write many Psalms!  From what we know about him as a shepherd, David worshipped and exalted the LORD in all he did, giving Him the glory.

Even though King Saul, demonized, double-minded and overcome with jealously and fear,  hunted David and wanted to kill him, David served Saul, and could have killed the king, but didn't, even though some of his soldiers urged him to. I believe it's because David had such a close relationship with the King of Life, the King of kings--Yahweh; Jesus!--Who is the King of Life.

God, Who is holy, has had every right to kill us, for every person has sinned against Him. But He chose instead to kill His Son, Jesus, in our place, that we might be spared, realize His goodness, and choose to serve Him (John 3:15-17.

With the world under the power of the devil, because of Adam's sin (Genesis 3), every human would have been automatically destined for hell. But Jesus was the Master Stone in God's sling! He had mercy on all of us who killed Him--because we sinned and had to be cleansed--asking God to forgive us!

Jesus is the ultimate Stone in your sling, as well!

Christ's Sacrifice for the Ungodly
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us. For at just the right time, while we  were still powerless,  Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.… (Romans 5:5-7, Berean Study Bible)
