IMPORTANCE OF HAVING CHRIST AND LOVING HIM.
by Hastings Zilima

“Jesus answered him, if anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him and we will come to join him and make our home with him”.(John 14;23).

From the verse above, we see that loving Jesus is the only key to a good relationship with God. Jesus is there as a mediator and at the same time a condition on which God accepts and visits a man. Imagine God the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit making their home with you. This becomes possible only when Jesus Christ comes into our lives first, and he comes only when we invite Him in. Jesus, in the book of Revelation chapter 3 verse 20 that, “behold, I am standing at the door, knocking, if one hears my word and opens the door I will enter and eat with him, and him with me.” Jesus is always ready for your invitation into your life. When he gets into your life, He opens a way for you to the Father. He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14;6). It is only through loving Him that we can claim that we are His. As we read before that those who love Him keep His word. By keeping His word doesn’t just mean keeping a bible at your house, It simply means keeping His commandments. Remember what Moses said to the Israelites when his time was coming to an end in one of his statements. He said “Israel remember this; the Lord and the Lord alone is our God, love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. Never forget these commands that I am giving you today. Teach them to your children. Repeat them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working. Tie them on your arms and wear them on your foreheads as a reminder. Write them on the door prints of your homes and on your gates”(Deuteronomy 6; 4-9). By saying this , Moses did not mean you should write the commandments on a piece of wood and tie them on your forehead to show that you are really keeping them, no, he simply meant that we should make them a part of us. Part of our mind, soul, our way food and shelter. No one can walk without a soul, you can’t stay longer without food, you need shelter to rest and a way or path to walk in. likewise, we are nothing without these commandments because they are the words that build up the life of a Christian. When the life of a Christian has been built, he walks in the way of the Lord in which he will never walk alone but with Jesus Himself. Walking with Jesus makes one safe. When we have Jesus Christ in our hearts, we will never be disappointed or discouraged in every situation. In Mark 4:35, the disciples of Jesus Christ remembered that having Jesus in their boat was their opportunity to overcome the storm that almost destroyed their ship on the sea. At first they tried to overcome the storm on their own using their own knowledge and skills but all to no avail, that was when they remembered that someone greater than the storm was among them. They called out to Jesus Christ and He came and calmed the storm. What kind of storm are you encountering? Is it a storm of diseases, poverty, limitation, rejection? What knowledge or skill are you using to overcome it? Do you know that your skills can not make you succeed unless you bring in someone greater than your storm? This greatest person is none other than our Lord Jesus Christ. Another privilege of having Christ is that we have everything we need. Those who have Jesus will never starve because He is the bread of life (John 6:35). When Jesus comes into one’s life, He comes with everything, that is why Jesus is urging us to seek first His kingdom before anything (Matthew 6:33). Jesus came on earth to offer this kingdom of God and eternal life and to express the love of God for His people. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life”.(John 3:16). Jesus gives eternal life, if you have Jesus, you definitely have eternal life (John 5:24). Jesus Christ gives one victory over death, read John 8:51. Jesus Christ offers healing (1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah53:3). Having Jesus Christ makes one an overcomer. When He is operating in you, all things become possible because you have the Lord of lords to whom all the power and authority in heaven was given.(Matthew 28:18). Philippians 2:9-11 confirms that His name is above all names, and Romans 8:37 ensures us that through Him, we are more than conquerors. “Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the son of God? (1 John 5:5). Accept Jesus Christ today and you will no longer be lost, for He came to save someone lost like me (Luke 19:10).

Although we call ourselves born again Christians, do we really know Jesus Christ? We can claim to have known Him if only we keep His commandment (1 John 2:3-4). Brethren, this is the right time to make the right decision, choose Christ and you will never regret your choice, and you will at last be able to speak proudly as Paul did in the book of 2 Timothy 4:8.

May the grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST and the love of GOD and the fellowship of the HOLY SPIRIT be with you all. AMEN!
