Needed Companionship
by PamFord Davis

Acquaintances are surprised to learn that a widow or widower remarries soon after the death of their spouse. Aren’t they rushing things?

They need companionship.

Frequently, the loneliest are those in the midst of a crowd.

They might live in a large apartment complex or even fight their way through crowds to take a train, bus or subway to commute to work. Before COVID restrictions, they slid into an already occupied seat or stood elbow-to-elbow; yet, they were worlds apart. If commuting by vehicle they’re just one; surrounded my multitudes.

Work may be a means of escape. Would anyone even miss them if they were gone? Then comes the weekend; it’s the time they dread most. Others will be filling days off with their spouse, children or sweethearts. They have nobody to share their days with; the evenings or long lonely nights. They hunger for companionship.

We must not forget the jailed and those shut in because of illness or a disability. Living alone at home, in an assisted living facility, nursing home or hospital they need love. They need companionship. We’d never think of letting them starve physically. Today, more than ever they are starved for communication and companionship. Phone calls, emails and things in their mail mean a lot. God cares. Do we?

God knew that Adam needed a companion, He created a helper; a companion, Eve.

Are you lonely?

Reach out to the Holy Spirit.

He is our helper; our companion.

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— (John 14:6 AMP).”
