Came Bearing Gifts
by PamFord Davis

The Ford family Christmas Eve gift distribution began after the arrival of Grandma & Grandpa Ford. Along with Grandma & Grandpa, Aunt Jessie & Uncle Wallace came bearing gifts. As a child, I wanted toys. Aunt Jessie was practical. Employed at Dey Brothers Department Store in Syracuse, she gave each of us gifts of clothing.

Wise men traveled from afar; they came bearing gifts of great value.

The King of the Jews deserved the very best.

“When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh (Matthew 2:9-11 KJV).”

Each sacrificial gift had great significance.

The gold was given in recognition of Jesus role as King of the Jews.

One of the Magi gave Jesus frankincense for divinity.

Lastly myrrh represented Jesus humanity (used in death and burial).
