Trees Like People
by Tonja Taylor

To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion—to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit—that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.--Isaiah 61:3, AMPC

The LORD refers to trees many places in the Word.  When Jesus healed the blind man by putting mud on his eyes, at first the man said he saw "men like trees walking.'

The day I had traveled in a lovely rural area of southern Arkansas to work, I came up behind a log truck. I followed it for a ways--but not too close--and wondered where all of those cut trees were going and what they would become.

Then the thought came that cut trees were like submitted Christians--they would be carried to a new place, shaped and formed and built into something useful.

So shall we be as we do Proverbs 3:5 and 6: Trust in the LORD with all our hearts and lean not to our own understanding, but in all our ways acknowledge--submit--to Him, and He will direct our paths.  He is always good, and always up to only good for us. We can trust Him Who sent His only perfect Son, Jesus, to die for us and cleanse our lives from sin (John 3:15-17), and Who rose again to give us abundant life (John 10:10)!

Hallelujah!
