Wretched.org - It's Not Wretched. It's Great!
by Ruthie Alekseeva

A woman eases herself into an oversized armchair in the corner of her Bible study leader’s living room, then pulls her Bible out of her bag and lays it in her lap. She flips it open, flicking the pages over until she finds the chapter and verse her Bible teacher has announced.

As the Bible study leader begins to pray, she exhales, hoping tonight’s reading will have something illuminating to say about the messy life circumstance she has found herself in, but this hopeful thought is struck down when her Bible teacher interprets the night’s scripture in a way she feels is theologically wrong, actually, not just wrong but heretical. Should she say something?

This conundrum along with many others is discussed on the ministry website Wretched.org which contains thousands of free television episodes and audio podcasts hosted by comedian, Todd Friel. These entertaining and humourous digital resources are streamed on the Wretched website as well as on iTunes, Android, RSS Feed, Facebook, YouTube and numerous American radio stations and television networks.

The website also has an online store selling books and audio covering issues as diverse as:

  • Abortion
  • Anxiety
  • Biblical counselling
  • Christian liberty
  • Conflict
  • Darwinism
  • Discernment
  • Freedom from pornography
  • Hermaneutics (Reading the Bible correctly)
  • Persecution
  • Pneumatology (Understanding the Holy Spirit)
  • Suicide
  • Theology
  • And understanding Greek Bible terms

So, does this website have any negatives? None that I can see! Everything is edifying and as Wretched’s website says, every episode will increase your confidence when evangelising and strengthen your church.

Now, how should the woman mentioned at the beginning of this website review handle the awkward situation she is in? According to Wretched, to avoid being known as a ‘Jelly Fish Christian’, she should privately and lovingly correct her Bible teacher because although she may be labeled as mean and divisive, history shows that, just like Charles Spurgeon and Martin Luther, she will be remembered and her church will grow in numbers and become stronger and more in awe of God. So, who wouldn’t want that!
