Wagon Train
by PamFord Davis

'Wagons Ho!'

Families left the security of New England and the Midwest. Trusting wagon master Major Seth Adams, (Ward Bond) they joined the wagon train. I have often watched Wagon Train; I remember the stories of adventure, fulfillment and heartbreak.

Some travelers reached the west; sadly, others died along the way. I’d guess that the Wagon Train programs were mostly fiction.

Yet, the show brought the era of wagon trains from past to present. Would I have placed my faith in the wagon master?

Faith can be tried.

Times got tough for wagon train travelers. They dealt with weather hazards, rough terrain, attacks by Native Americans and the lack of drinking water. Many blamed Major Adams for their troubles. He was not always popular. Leadership is not a popularity contest. The LORD God is Master. I can trust Him with my present and future.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart

And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil (Proverbs 3:5-7 NASB).”
